BIG’s Social Skills Summer Camps

Although the weather has been hot for weeks now, the closing of school doors means summer is officially here for Baton Rouge families! From playdates in the park to family vacations at the beach, summer is full of exciting experiences for our kids. To get the most out of summer, we all want our children to enjoy playing with each other as much as possible, instead of playing with technology. How can you encourage your kids to get out and have fun in the sun, especially those children who may be shy and uncomfortable in social settings?

While some children acquire social skills naturally, other children may not. And that’s okay – each child learns differently! Sometimes, we just need to teach children social skills in a way that they can understand and learn. At BIG, we offer social skills groups for teaching these important, life-long skills to children. This summer, BIG is offering unique Social Skills Camps in June and July for children ages 7-11 to learn and practice social skills with their peers. Good for children who may have trouble interacting with peers or adults, these groups are supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and will make sure your child has his or her most successful social summer yet!

In BIG’s Social Skills Camps, children will have the opportunity to learn and practice new social skills through role play activities, fun outdoor games, board games, crafts, science experiments and more. Each day will have a fun and creative theme that focuses on one of the camp’s topics.

This summer’s Social Skills Camps will focus on:

  • Making and keeping friends

  • Dealing with bullies

  • Age-appropriate play with peers

  • Conversations

  • Coping with anger and anxiety

  • Peer conflict

  • Sportsmanship

Camp Dates:

  • June 17 – June 21

  • June 24 – June 28

  • July 15 – July 19
